Other Points of Interest and Links

The booklet notes are by Anthony Fiumara and are in English only (translation by Dick de Waal). The notes contain excellent background information on each composer and their work, with a particularly dramatic interview quote from Erkki-Sven Tüür who relates how he had originally planned to visit the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet on September 28, 1994 and then ended up postponing the trip for a week at the request of the Quartet. The ferry that Tüür would have taken was the MS Estonia ferry which sank in a large maritime disaster on September 28, 1994 with the loss of over 800 lives. Tüür ends by saying: "I am not sure as to whether the listener should have this information in mind - my music is not a description of the Estonia catastrophe in the Baltic Sea - but for me personally, it is somehow linked to this thought."
